Task : Conceptualism Report

 INTRODUCTION

20^th century design was an art movement that is gets the influent from politic. In this subject there are five themes that we need to understand and learnt about it. The first one is cubism, cubism is the art that we need to look from difference view about one object. Although it is only one object but it will give a difference meaning in a difference situation. Secondly is Dadaism or dada, dada is an art that we can express about our feeling in politic into art. Dada has no rule to make it. The third themes is surrealism, surrealism is an art that we make something real but using other material for example there is one person who want to exploring about the ‘Soundscapes’ it is Zai Tang. He uses the tape to produce a sound of jungle. Surrealism is more to make a dream to be a reality it is also a movement in the sound. Forth theme are conceptualism, it is about how we see the idea on the object. And the lastly is about postmodernism, it is an only focus to the object not the idea. In this report I only focus on conceptualism art.

For this report I choose my art work that I have done in subject Digital Design. I make a movie sequence about Snow White and the Seven Dwarf on the plate. The reason why I use plate as a place to make this work because as we know in the story Snow White and the Seven Dwarf the main thing that is play an important impact is an apple. Apple is a food that why I choose plate as a place I make my art work. The idea of this task is the poisoners apple that it uses in the story. I put the apple at the center of the plate and I put all the sequence of the story around the apple.

  The reason why I choose the round plate compare to square plate because for me a sequence is like the whole story that we have simplify it into a short story. We only take the importance part in the story. As we know to watch whole movie take a long time but when there is a movie sequence we not need a long time to understand the story. For the sequence I just pick a picture and painting some image at the plate. I also make the character of the snow white and the prince from the dough.

            There is one person who makes their art using the plate she is RED HONG YI. She uses the plate as a canvas that she will make the art only using the plate and the food. She said that “the city’s contradicting charms and chaos inspired her to start creating art using local everyday materials as her medium”. She has made many art using plate and food. Other than that she also make the art using basketball, chopstick, mark making of the coffee, candle and also the flower. She also known as the artist “who love to paint, but not with a paintbrush”. There is one of his arts show one part of the story THE THREE LITTLE PIGS, she use the spaghetti, bread sticks and soy sauce to make this art work. Here is some of the example of his work:

 For my improvement I want to make the movie sequence using only an apple. I want to make a movie sequence only using the skin of an apple and put it on the plate because the idea was the food and the object was the plate. I will peal the skin of an apple without break it and continues after that I want to draw the sequence on that skin. 



CONCLUSION

In conclusion, I understand that the conceptualism art was about what we think about the idea of something and try to think the solving problem by using the object. For conceptualism art we only need to focus on the idea but not the object. For example the idea of my task was an apple and an apple was a food as we know we need the container to put the food that why people build a plate that can put food on it. When there is a plate so the food will be more safe to eat and will be more clean. Other than that the plate also makes the food become more organizers and will not look mess on the table.

            Beside that I also learnt that all the thing happen around us such as the design of something happen because of the concept. For example if we want to drink the water we need a cup and if we want to eat we need the plate. That why the idea or the concept was very important in designing something.

Postmodernism art

Subj : 20th Century Design
Task : Postmodernism 

In this week we need to create 3 images that relate to the postmodernism. As I know this image does not need the meaning why we make it that way and does not have the reason so I made the image that will show the Malaysia.

This is my first image, I make the painting of the Nasi Lemak on the plate. I choose nasi lemak because as we know in Malaysia, nasi lemak was a very famous food especially early in the morning. We also can assume it as a pop culture in Malaysia. We always see people use plate for putting the food that they want to eat so this time I make the plate as the place I draw my art. Why I choose this plate and not circle or square plate? this is because when I was child my mom always use this plate to feed me so I assume that this plate we use for child. Other than that we also will see this type of plate in the hospital and in the hospital there is many kind of people and it show the unity because all people use the same type of plate. In this art, plate mean that in every range of age will love and eat nasi lemak no mater whether they are young or old.

This is my second image. I make a astro from the combination of the pan and the spatula. I choose this spatula and the pan because first the shape is look like the astro and the second is as we know that every house should have this two thing same goes to the astro. I notice that now days every house should have the astro as their family entertainment same goes to the pan and the spatula every house should have this two thing as a tool to cook. So I think this two object are needed and important in daily life.

This is the third image that I make it is a Durian the king of the fruit in Malaysia. I want to make  a sculpture of this fruit because this fruit represent Malaysia. As we know Durian was a very popular fruit in Malaysia it also call as a King of the fruit that why I make the sculpture with the crown. I make it gold color because it look like the royal color.

Midpoint Review

For this subject I get to know the art deeply and learnt how to understand the picture. I also understand the art work and try to relate it to my work. For example the task about cubism I understand that the film can be made by using a photo because a different angle and situation can produce a different meaning such as the telephone although it a same object but it can bring a different meaning to the user. It same to our project about the Instagram, as we know the instagram are use to take a photo and share it with the public, try to record the environment that is nice or bad. Some of the picture sharing is about the food  or about the sport it depend to the interest of someone. for example the sport, there is many picture about sport but the way of taking picture and the situation bring the different meaning.

Beside that I also understand about dadaism it is a artwork that we make base on the expressing our feeling.This dadaism art have no rule and we can make it as a place to express our feeling or opinion about some issue. Many artist involve in this kind of art such as Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray and many more. For my project about dadaism I take Marcel Duchamp as my reference because my project is about transgender and I find out that one of the Marcel Duchamp art is a picture that he wear a women dress.

Surrealism is one of the field art that move from the realism art. The designer try to make something that is real using something else such as the project about soundscapes. In this project he try to make the sound of jungle by using the tape.

Conceptualism is an idea that we should think if we want to design something. Every single thing that we design should be have a concept for example the plate. The design of the plate for make the food clean and not mess. It have a place to make us easy to pick and look more polite.

We do some discussion about the making of the short film about instagram because we still confuse about what and how to make it. Therefore we make another brainstorm about instagram and now  I understand what should I do for the film.

From the instagram we can connect to other person and to the global by sharing the picture.
We can make a film about food, sport, illness, entertainment, news, and travel. We can take picture or record the video about this all thing and mix it up together to build a film. We can take as many as we can. The picture or movie that we take must be instant.











But I think I have a problem because I don't have any instagram account. So I decided to make account from my laptop and take picture from my hand phone then transfer to the laptop or I just use my friend account to take the picture. I get the topic about food so I must take a picture about any kind of food and it must be instantly. From the food we can describe about the culture in Malaysia. Like in my class there are student from Ghana, Sarawak, Malay, Christian, and Indian. So from the film it also can related to our class different people have their own culture and their own style.

Task 1

We are ask to do a simple short video in a group

At first I really don't understand what to do and there is so many question playing in my mind such as

• What we want to film it ? 
• How to film it ? 
• Why we want to film it ? 

and many more 

We make a short discussion and we decided to make the laptop as a thing that we want to film it but what kind of film is it ? so we make a brain storm to get more idea about the film.

This is our progress on the brain storm 

From here I know that is a different in a laptop we can do a privacy work and also a public work.

The privacy work like our design, email and games but for the public work like Facebook, tweeter, instagram and many more. This is one of the way that we can connect to the public and to the other.

From here I interested in making a short film about an instagram and I need to search more about what I can do from the instagram.
