What designer do for DISABILITY PEOPLE??

When I go to shop or mall to buy some new cloth suddenly I saw the couple that both of them are blind walking at the road side and I wonder how they want to buy a cloth and know the color of the cloth that they buy? and I also wonder how they choose the cloth that they want to wear everyday? 

As we know in Malaysia the amount of disability people are increase every year but the facility for this people are less why this happen? where the people that should provide all this thing to this people? and what designer do to make this people live better? Lets focus on the blind people have You ever think how difficult they have to deal with their live for example choose the cloth, buy a vegetable or fruit. Therefore I do some research about disability people and I also get the statistic of disability people in Malaysia. 

Here are the statistic that I get from Malaysia Welfare Department site that shows the amount of disability people in Malaysia from 2012 to 2013.

As we can see the amount of disability people are increase from the year 2012 to 2013 and I notice that the facility for this people not as much as the people increase. Yes, there is a facility for this people but is there enough? and I notice not all the facility for this people use by them mostly the normal people use it for its own sake. 

This disability people also need some facility that can make their life more easier and they can life as normal as the normal people. For example the blind people, we can make some gadget for this people like the scanner that can tell them the color so that their life will be better and they also know what they wear and can increase their confident level. 

What is critical awareness ?

Critical awareness is like the critical thinking it about something that is relate to our life, emotion, and our awareness about what happen around us and we trying to solve the problem. Critical thinking are apply when we are in trouble and we need a fast solution of our problem. Other than that we also design something that will make the work or the thing become easier to use.

When we use our mind to think critically we will find the most creative way to solve our problem. By using this critical thinking we not only can help our self but we also can help other people to make their life become more easy. For example we make or design something for the people who need help such as the blind people. As we know the blind people can't see they only use their hand and other sense to continue their life for example we use our eye to read something but  for the blind people they use their finger to read but how about to choose cloth that have many color?

This is where the critical awareness are needed to help the people in needed to make their life better.    

What is analysis?

What is analysis ?

According to the dictionary analysis means something that you consider it carefully or  use statistical methods in order to fully understand it other than that analysis also means something you examine it using scientific methods in order to find out  what it consists of.

When you got a problem or something that confusing you and you want to solve it first you need to analyse your problem and get more information about the problem. After that make your own sentence and do another research to find the evident to support your sentences.

Analysis is the surface of the problems and it helps we or other person to understand and know what all the research about. From the analysis also we need to describe, and differentiate the information.

The understanding about contemporary design issues

 What you Understand about Contemporary Design Issues

For me I understand that contemporary means resent or now but for what about contemporary design issues? what is contemporary design issues ? what is about? I'm keep asking my self all this question event when I trying to get information in internet. In the last week we had a presentation about this subject and I learnt and understand a little about contemporary design issues.

In this subject there is rhetoric and from the rhetoric there is the audience and the author. When we do a design the author of the design was our self and the audience was the people around us who see and receive what we want to deliver. I also know when we are the author we should know which author we want to be either the informative author or the persuasive author and when we are the audience we also need to choose either want to be the passive audience or the active audience. It important to choose because we decided for our self what we want to be and the outcome will be difference.

Other than that I also knows that in the contemporary design issues there is a argument. I'm not very understand about the argument but I try to understand it. From what I understand argument in this subject is about the stand point or view of the author. Other than that there is something that always play in my mind that is the argument is something that have a percentage or something that we do some research about that. Argument is not just a sentences that we can see that something that is bad or good, we need to do a research and make an evidence for each of our argument. From the example that I get, the argument not just state that "pollution is bad for the environment", we all know that the pollution are bad and nobody will argue about it but when we said that "At least 25 percent of  the government budget should be spent on limiting pollution" then everybody will come out and asking why 25%? it should be more than that or someone will said that it should more than that and this is call the argument.

Contemporary Design Issues Introduction

Subj : Contemporary Design Issues
Task : Introduction ( week 1)


Last week we have an presentation about what is contemporary design issues is about.  According to dictionary contemporary means things are modern and relate to the present time.

In contemporary design issue there is a rhetoric and in rhetoric there is two thing we need to understand and know  first is the author and the second is the audience. Each of this rhetoric have their own purposes such as the author they have two purpose informative and persuasive. Same with the audience there are two purpose one is passive and the other one is active. Active audience who is examine, quantify, assess, make informed decisions, interpret, evaluate, judge, resist change, criticise,
ridicule, and disprove but the passive audience who is just receive notice, feel reassured, feel a sense of unity, be entertained, receive instruction, enjoy, hear advice, be inspired, review, understand and learnt.

Other than that in the subject contemporary design issues there is a argument. This is argument is about the stand point or view of the author. in the context of academic argument usually we see it as a written text but in art this could be in form of both written and practice based work. When do the argument research we need to do the primary and the secondary research to make the evidence. In the research we should ask a few question like who is the author? how recent is the sources ? what type of sources does your audience value? . All this type of question will make your argument sources be credible. 

The process making gasing

Subj : 2D Animation

After I make the story now I need to make the storyboards and need to think how to begin and make introduction for my animation. First I need to make a scheduled for the each frame I need to set the time for each frame. My animation should not more than 2 minute therefor I need to set the time nicely.

When I want to make this animation my lecture have told me how much drawing should I draw it count like one second contain six drawing therefore I must make 720 drawing for my 2 minute animation. Although it only take 2 minute animation but the process to make 2 minute animation was a very hard time for me.

For introduction I just make the view of the house zoom in and than go to the 3 kid next to the house. I think it will look ok because in my opinion we want to know something first we look from the surface therefore if I want to make audience keep to look at my animation I should attract them to see what happen next in my story.

For the drawing I made some of my drawing manually but some of my drawing I made it using Photoshop. In my opinion some of the drawing become easier when we do manually but some are not.

In this subject I also learnt how to make a background for some of the image. actually in animation character is not only thing that play a role to make our animation look good and interesting but sometime we can only use the view of the background as some of the part in our animation. This is because if we know the character only but we does not know where the place or what is the background of our animation it will make our story does not have a attraction. For me a good animation is when we manage to do a great character with a great background because  a great staging will make the audience feel the situation that we want to make like the situation in the evening at the village.

REFLECTIVE 
= I learnt not all the improvement in technology is a good thing sometime we need to go back in time do some of the thing manually and it will give you some quality and some of the feeling like to appreciate what the animation have to trough when they want to make some of the entertainment for us.
=I also learnt not easy to make an animation we only watch the finish animation on the television but we does not know the difficulties that all animation have gone through to make we sit and smile in front of the television.
= Other than that I also learnt how to apply not all but some of the basic principle of animation into my animation. This is because if we make our animation but we forget to apply the basic principle our animation our movement in animation will make it look like rigid and not interesting.  

Gasing

Subj : 2D Animation

On this task we need to thing something or a story that is have some culture. Because of this task were same with other subject so I decided to make one story but have two subject on it actually it is 3 subject the story.

I made the story about traditional game that I always see when I was child. My story is about 'Gasing' or in English we call it 'Top' it is a traditional game from Kelantan and it be played all around Malaysia. Gasing not only popular among the children but it also played by adults.

Gasing is a game that is made from wood that can be spinning it comes in many shape and size. Other than that gasing also have many type and each type have their own unique. For example the type of gasing such as gasing jantung, gasing piring, gasing kelamar, gasing telur, gasing berembang, gasing melayu, gasing cina, gasing buku benang dan gasing pinang.

For my story I want to show that the important of each part of the gasing that will make the gasing spinning perfectly and will spinning in a long time. This is some of my narrative for my story :

Introduction

In a village there is one boy name Abu. He has 2 best friend names Ah Seng and Mutthu. Every evening they will spend time together playing gasing. One day while they playing under a big tree in front of the house suddenly Abu’s mothers call him. She asks Abu to help her go to shop and buy some groceries for her. Abu leave his friend for a while.

Climax

While Abu goes to the shop his friend stops playing gasing and take a break. Meanwhile in the same time gasing, string, nail and Tapak Uri start taking to each other. They argue who is the most important part in a gasing game. Everyone wants to say that he is the most important part compare to each other. After that they start to fight to each other.

Ending

When the nail, gasing, and string are fighting each other suddenly Tapak Uri comes and tries to stop the argument. He explains to them that all of them are very important to make the gasing spin perfectly. They understand and befriend again. At the same time Abu comes back from the shop and get his friend back. They start playing the gasing game and they enjoy playing the game.

Closure

            Every situation that has been created has its own advantages and importance. like a top, they need each other to ensure that the top can spin properly if one of the top part of it is not perfect, it cannot be spinning tops with balanced.

REFLECTION

= From this task I know more about the history of the gasing and know the function of each part of the gasing.

= This task make me remember all the joy moment when I a little kid compare with nowadays majority the kid does not know what is gasing event they do not know how to play gasing. Kids nowadays always with their smart phone and I think it is not a healthy lifestyle.   

Making A Flip book

Subj : 2D Animation
Task : Structure 

flip book is one of the way to do an animation. For this time I need to do the basic principle of animation into a flip book and it will make me more understanding about the principle of animation.

Making a flip book is not easy and also not to hard, what we need to produce a flip book is the quality paper. If we just use a thin paper it will make the flip book difficult to flip and we cannot see the movement smoothly. There is good and bad using a thin paper, the good thing is we can trace the image easily and easy to make a movement with a nice arcs but the bad thing is when we flip it there is some page will not flip and it will be skip some of the movement.

Other than that when make a flip book make sure use a suitable size of the book because when you use a big size but have less pages it will be difficult to flip and at the end we cannot see what it's about.

 Other than that for me it is difficult to maintain the size of the image if we not use the light box. I cannot estimate the space between one action to another action and one pages to another pager therefor using the light box help me a lot to solve my problem.

There is some of the principle of animation that for me it easy to understand and easy to draw it in the flip book such as squash and stretch, arcs, and follow through and overlapping but there is a some for me it difficult such as the secondary action. I have difficulties to understanding what is actually mean by secondary action and lastly I use you tube and watch the example of the movie that is show about secondary action and FINALLY I understand what is secondary action. Secondary action is a movement that happen after the primary action such as an ant fall into the jelly the primary action was an ant will be bouncing on the top of the jelly and the secondary action was the jelly will be shaking.

When making a flip book we must draw the drawing movement a little by little so we can see the nice movement. From here also I understand that when we want to make the animation move faster we can draw the image with large space between one page to another page.

For the finishing of the flip book we must make sure that the end or the ages of the flip book are same so that it will be easy to flip and there is no page will be skip.

2D ANIMATION (TASK 2)

Task : Movement

In this week we do some exercise that relate to topic for this task such as

# LIFE DRAWING
We must draw our own class mate action for me at first I feel that this activity was difficult because I'm not use to draw people in a short time. furthermore I don't like to draw a life thing especially human. At first I only draw a stick men to represent the action after that  I get to used to the draw it little by little.

This is my first drawing, I made a stick men and than I feel that drawing stick men also not easy we must understand the actual position that we want to draw and then the drawing will look nice and can understand what actually the person do at that time. When we not understanding the position of the position our drawing of the stick men will look so messy and will make other person also not understand what we want to show.

This is my second drawing, for this drawing I almost understand what and how to do the live drawing and I start to love draw live drawing. When comes to third drawing I feel enjoy drawing the human at any position because I understand how and what should I do first. First we should know and understand the position very well after that try to feel the feeling of that position and start draw the structure of the human.
#FAST CHARACTER SKETCH
Fast character sketch we need  to sit down together and we need to draw face of our friend that sit in front us according to the order that give. We are ask to draw in 5 minute and use a limited line.
For me I think it was fun and it challenge me to think what should I draw that will look or  represent the character of my friend and this is my art work.

# PERSPECTIVE
     For this subtopic I love to make it because when I was in form six I have done it but I'm not remember how to start it. Therefore I must start from beginning try to understand what is actually means by perspective. At first it look very confuse and I don't know where to put the focus point. but thanks to Tomie he help me a lot in understanding the concept of perspective.

This is my first try drawing a perspective, I think I have forget the rule and how to draw a perspective that why my drawing look like a rubbish...huhuhhuu... But try to identify where is my mistake and try to understand the concept of perspective.

 
And here it is, this is my second perspective drawing of the studio. I think I have understand the concept of perspective and I think I like it. Therefore  I continue draw a perspective of the corridor of the studio and this is my drawing.

Perspective is about how we see the thing the more closer the thing to us the bigger it in perspective drawing. Perspective drawing have many type such as one point of perspective drawing and two point of perspective drawing it depend on what we want to draw.

CONCEPTUALISM REPORT

Subj : 20th Century Design
Task : Conceptualism Report

 INTRODUCTION

20^th century design was an art movement that is gets the influent from politic. In this subject there are five themes that we need to understand and learnt about it. The first one is cubism, cubism is the art that we need to look from difference view about one object. Although it is only one object but it will give a difference meaning in a difference situation. Secondly is Dadaism or dada, dada is an art that we can express about our feeling in politic into art. Dada has no rule to make it. The third themes is surrealism, surrealism is an art that we make something real but using other material for example there is one person who want to exploring about the ‘Soundscapes’ it is Zai Tang. He uses the tape to produce a sound of jungle. Surrealism is more to make a dream to be a reality it is also a movement in the sound. Forth theme are conceptualism, it is about how we see the idea on the object. And the lastly is about postmodernism, it is an only focus to the object not the idea. In this report I only focus on conceptualism art.

 PROCESS USED

For this report I choose my art work that I have done in subject Digital Design. I make a movie sequence about Snow White and the Seven Dwarf on the plate. The reason why I use plate as a place to make this work because as we know in the story Snow White and the Seven Dwarf the main thing that is play an important impact is an apple. Apple is a food that why I choose plate as a place I make my art work. The idea of this task is the poisoners apple that it uses in the story. I put the apple at the center of the plate and I put all the sequence of the story around the apple.

  The reason why I choose the round plate compare to square plate because for me a sequence is like the whole story that we have simplify it into a short story. We only take the importance part in the story. As we know to watch whole movie take a long time but when there is a movie sequence we not need a long time to understand the story. For the sequence I just pick a picture and painting some image at the plate. I also make the character of the snow white and the prince from the dough.

            There is one person who makes their art using the plate she is RED HONG YI. She uses the plate as a canvas that she will make the art only using the plate and the food. She said that “the city’s contradicting charms and chaos inspired her to start creating art using local everyday materials as her medium”. She has made many art using plate and food. Other than that she also make the art using basketball, chopstick, mark making of the coffee, candle and also the flower. She also known as the artist “who love to paint, but not with a paintbrush”. There is one of his arts show one part of the story THE THREE LITTLE PIGS, she use the spaghetti, bread sticks and soy sauce to make this art work. Here is some of the example of his work:

 For my improvement I want to make the movie sequence using only an apple. I want to make a movie sequence only using the skin of an apple and put it on the plate because the idea was the food and the object was the plate. I will peal the skin of an apple without break it and continues after that I want to draw the sequence on that skin. 



CONCLUSION

In conclusion, I understand that the conceptualism art was about what we think about the idea of something and try to think the solving problem by using the object. For conceptualism art we only need to focus on the idea but not the object. For example the idea of my task was an apple and an apple was a food as we know we need the container to put the food that why people build a plate that can put food on it. When there is a plate so the food will be more safe to eat and will be more clean. Other than that the plate also makes the food become more organizers and will not look mess on the table.

            Beside that I also learnt that all the thing happen around us such as the design of something happen because of the concept. For example if we want to drink the water we need a cup and if we want to eat we need the plate. That why the idea or the concept was very important in designing something.
