3D Modelling Object and Environment

3D Modelling
( Introduction to maya )

There is a little knowledge that I want to share from what I learnt last week in subject 3D modelling object and environment. Last week we learnt about the maya software and I think there is a lot thing we need to understand and this software need us to practice every day so that we can remember all the tool inside maya. In maya there is animation, effect, and rendering solution that has been used in everything from product design to feature film.Therefor here some of the tools that we can see in the maya :

Select tool(Q)
= Select an object or, by clicking and dragging, multiple object

Lasso tool
= Select object(s) by drawing a lasso

Move tool(W)
= Moves the selected object

Rotate tool(E)
= Rotate the selected object

Scale tool(R)
= Scale the selected object

Soft Modification tool
= Allows modification of the object with falloff

Show Manipulator tool(T)
= Show the manipulator, allowing you to adjust construction history.

These tools are used for selecting and translating and are accessed primarily through the shortcut keys Q, W, E, R, and T.

LAYOUTS

The layouts tool box quickly change the arrangement and layout of the viewpoint. The viewpoint arrangement you choose depends on the task at hand. clicking any of the preset buttons instantly changes the views as follows.

TRANSFORMING OBJECT

Transformations change an object's translation, rotation, and scale. You access the transformation tools using the hot keys: W (Move); E ( Rotate); R ( Scale). You can also select these tools from the tool box on the left side of the interface. Each transformation tool has it's own manipulator, and each manipulator is color coded:

RED = X-axis
GREEN = Y-axis
BLUE = Z-axis

Left-clicking and dragging in the center of the manipulator moves the object on all available axes.

This is some of the example of the transforming object:

In maya you also need to know what is polygon geometry, NURBs surfaces, and subdivision surface. A polygon is a three-four sided plane of geometry that makes a face on an object. Polygon are the most commonly used geometry type in 3D. Polygon are commonly used for all type of object.

NURBs stand for non-uniform rational b-spline (NURBs). NURB splines are curve used to created smooth, minimal surface and geometry. NURBs are commonly used for very smooth object because they don't require as many points to create the same look as polygon geometry would.

Subdivision surface which are sometime referred to as NURBs are closely related to polygonal geometry. Subdivision surface use an algorithm to take polygon geometry and smooth it automatically.

Museum, Gallery and Heritage

Task 1 : Introduction to Museum, Gallery & Heritage

Last few week ago we held a visited to national museum and international Islamic museum. We went there by car and we need to have our own camera to record or take a picture as an evidence for our research. We also do some discussion after the visited. In our discussion we need to pick one of the artifact that we see at the museum and make our conclusion about what we see and why we choose that thing.

This is some picture that I take from our visited:

International museum Malaysia

In here the most interesting thing that I found was the Sepili & Moyang Figure. The Sepili figure is an object of worship which is use as a medium to transfer the disease from patient in "Benisoy" ritual, a traditional medicine system of Jah Hut. Similarly the Mah Meri use Moyang figure in their traditional ritual through "Sembuang" "Ancak" or "Sampan" . These figure are carved from pulai or tutor trees as an intermediary in healing ritual.

This artifact was the symbol of the believe our Moyang before Islam come, they belief in something that can make they healthy by use Sepili. Other than that the made of this Sepili was the most interesting for me because the size of this thing was small and it look cute.

International Islamic Museum

From the second place I found this pierced steel alam was the interesting thing for me. Pierced Steel Alam was from Safavid Iran and it is found on 17th century AD / 11th century AH. I choose this thing because I interested in how they making this kind of art. as we know the materiel of this thing was made by steel and it hard to make it. Other than that it also shows us the Islam has come to this place. They also make the weapon from this steel and as we can see the design of this steel also very interesting and very detail.

MUSEUM, GALLERY AND HERITAGE

THE UNDERSTANDING OF MUSEUM AND GALLERY

The concept of museum

From what I understand about museum is a place where we can see the artifact from all the world  and it have their own history and description about where and why it look like that. From the museum also we can know about the history of something that we want to know more clearly.

The concept of gallery

Gallery is the place that we can see all the thing either it old artifact or new. In gallery we can see something new in every exhibition they held.

MUSEUM
  • Artifact
  • proof of history
  • Archaeologist research outcomes
  • Artifact exhibit for acknowledgement
GALLERY
  • More on exhibit work
  • Commercial purpose/ not
  • research outcomes

3D MODELLING FOR OBJECT AND ENVIRONMENT

WHAT IS 3D?

3D means three dimensional that is have width, height and depth for example the environment and human was in 3D and our daily life also in 3D. As a human being we have our own 3D perception that allows us to see the object in 3D without using other additional tools. But not all the thing we can see it in 3D for example the  3D film and video, we must use other additional tool to see it in 3D such as red/cyan glasses.

There is different between 2D and 3D, in 2D we can see only two-axis that is Y and X but in 3D we have three-axis that is X, Y, and Z that is represent width, height and depth.

The Z in the 3D play the important thing such as :

To measure
  • The depth of an object
  • The location of an object
  • The distance of an object
  • The Z-axis of rotation
3D MODELLING PRINCIPLE

These modelling principle are fundamental standards 3D artists need to think about every time they sit down to modelling something.
  • Realism
  • Detail
  • Functionality
  • Scale and proportion
  • Appeal
  • Volume
  • Exaggeration
  • Weight

BASIC ARGUMENT

What designer do for DISABILITY PEOPLE??

When I go to shop or mall to buy some new cloth suddenly I saw the couple that both of them are blind walking at the road side and I wonder how they want to buy a cloth and know the color of the cloth that they buy? and I also wonder how they choose the cloth that they want to wear everyday?

As we know in Malaysia the amount of disability people are increase every year but the facility for this people are less why this happen? where the people that should provide all this thing to this people? and what designer do to make this people live better? Lets focus on the blind people have You ever think how difficult they have to deal with their live for example choose the cloth, buy a vegetable or fruit. Therefore I do some research about disability people and I also get the statistic of disability people in Malaysia.

Here are the statistic that I get from Malaysia Welfare Department site that shows the amount of disability people in Malaysia from 2012 to 2013.

As we can see the amount of disability people are increase from the year 2012 to 2013 and I notice that the facility for this people not as much as the people increase. Yes, there is a facility for this people but is there enough? and I notice not all the facility for this people use by them mostly the normal people use it for its own sake.

This disability people also need some facility that can make their life more easier and they can life as normal as the normal people. For example the blind people, we can make some gadget for this people like the scanner that can tell them the color so that their life will be better and they also know what they wear and can increase their confident level.

GUIDE TO A SUCCESSFUL GRAPHIC DESIGN

Infographic

We need to find one topic and make infographic from the information that I get. My topic is "Guide to a successful graphic design" I have do some research about it and this is the list that we should do to be a successful graphic design.

GUIDE TO A SUCCESSFUL GRAPHIC DESIGN

1. SKY IS THE LIMIT
= Push yourself to the maximum and never stop dreaming

2. COMMUNICATE
= It is the main purpose of graphic design

3. GET YOUR ENGLISH RIGHT
= Always double check your spelling and grammar

4. PRACTICE MAKE IT PERFECT
= Redo your old design and other people's design

5. NEVER STOP LEARNING
= Read, take online classes or other training at collage
= Teach somebody, you will learnt a lot by teaching

6. JACK OF ALL TRADES
= The more skills you bring to the table, the better you can help your clients

7. ACKNOWLEDGE
= In your career, you will need help or guidance from other.
= Thanks them, and be there when somebody need you.

8. BE PERSISTENT & PASSIONATE
= The number of times you get knocked down pick and brush yourself up
= To pursue your passion you must have persistence

9. KISS ( KEEP IT SIMPLE, SILLY )
= Simplicity attract all
= Keep it fresh and be straight to point

10. DEVELOP CONSTANTLY
= Don't think you know all, thing evolve and change
= Keep learning and developing your skills

11. BE CONFIDENT
= Be proud of your work but don't take criticisms personally
= Don't nail the brief first time  as people's tastes vary in this industry

12. CREATIVITY COMES FROM WITHIN
= Try to experiment maximum principle of design
= Explore yourself and work tirelessly as impossible is nothing

After done the presentation I need to do another infographic about another thing such as something that relate with myself or my background which something local. Why local? When we do infographic about obesity or some tips to be something good it will be same like what we see in internet but if do some difference it will make people want to know what we try to say using the infographic. Sometime a local people also do not know the local thing.

What is critical awareness ?

Critical Awareness

Critical awareness is like the critical thinking it about something that is relate to our life, emotion, and our awareness about what happen around us and we trying to solve the problem. Critical thinking are apply when we are in trouble and we need a fast solution of our problem. Other than that we also design something that will make the work or the thing become easier to use.

When we use our mind to think critically we will find the most creative way to solve our problem. By using this critical thinking we not only can help our self but we also can help other people to make their life become more easy. For example we make or design something for the people who need help such as the blind people. As we know the blind people can't see they only use their hand and other sense to continue their life for example we use our eye to read something but  for the blind people they use their finger to read but how about to choose cloth that have many color?

This is where the critical awareness are needed to help the people in needed to make their life better.
