Subj : Method Of Investigation
Lect : Miss Nadira Bashir
Task 2 : Alternative to Research

I have search about 5 different website about landscape design.

For the first website is www.dynascape.com

This side tells and teach us how to use the software in google to build a modeling landscape. It will teach every single step to make a nice and beautiful landscape in correct and easy way. This side explain the use every single thing in the software. There are 9 steps to follow:
Step 1: download the plugins, components and material structure.

Step 2: bring the CAD drawing into sketch up
Step 3: clean up the imported CAD drawing
Step 4: model the house [or building] and roof
Step 5: model the terrain
Step 6: apply texture
Step 7: replace 2D symbols with 3D models
Step 8: create scenes
Step 9: render the model for presentation
If you follow the entire step you will get a nice and beautiful 3D landscape.

Second website is www.irrigationtutorials.com

For this side it tells us about how to make landscape sprinkler. The landscape sprinkler is one of the important things for the landscape to look fresher and maintain the condition.
The other of this website is Jess Stryker. He gives a several step for us to go through if we want to make a sprinkler at our landscape. The step is:
Step 1: collect all the information such as the measure of your yard.

Step 2: select your equipment. Different equipment has a different function.
Step 3: Place the sprinkler head.
Step 4: create valve zones and draw in pipes
Step 5: the last step is lateral pipe sizes.

From this site it tells us the rule of landscape design. There are several rules for us to know if we want to make a landscape in our house. The rule is:
  • Unity
  • Simplicity
  • Balance
  • Colour
  • Natural transition
  • Line
  • Proportion
  • Repetition

This site tell us the tips that the landscape designer need if their want to begin design. There are several example of the landscape that the landscape designer can take a look and take the tips from this site.

Fifth website is bumilandscape.com

This site encourages us to use the flora as the majority of our landscape. This is because we want to reduce the global warming in our world. By using the green tree or the grass can reduce this entire problem.
Furthermore we need the green plant in our future to still alive. The colour green can make we feel clam and escape from our problem and stress.

Subj : Methods Of Investigation
Lect : Miss Nadira Bashir
Task 1 : Peer Review

Peer review

Last Friday we do some presentation, it not a very formal presentation. It like sharing what we understand about the topic that we discuss about research terminologies. Each person get 2 or 1 topic that we need to explain and do some research about the topic.

Satish (research methodology and quantitative and qualitative)

  • Research methodology is the process used to collect information and data for the purpose of making business decisions. The methodology may include publication research, interview, surveys and other research techniques, and could include both present and historical information.
  • Quantitative and qualitative is one of the research methods that we can use. Quantitative also we can call it as quanti is like a measure something using a number like how big the house. The measure can be calculating using centimeter, meter or many more. For the qualitative of we call it quali is an amount that we cannot estimate it like a love, how deep our love to our parent. Quali is the amount that we can feel but cannot calculate the value by using a number.

Alexis (formative and summative & observational research)

  • Formative is like a main of the all type of research. For example literature review, trend forecasting, video ethnography, demographic and many more. Formative also cannot be count.
  • Summative is like collecting all the data that can be count and the method use like interviews, survey, observation and many more that related.
  • Observational research is researches for observing without influencing the behavior of subject or collecting data without interact with the subject.

Jojo (literature research & ethnography)

  • Literature research is like a method of research from the other or someone work.
  • Meanwhile the ethnography is like the review on the ethnic culture. Different ethnic have a different culture it depend on the place.

Tomie (physcographic)

  • Research about something that related to the activity, the interest, opinion, and also the attitude. Example the tool for the swimmer.

Jeffry (demographic)
  • Demographic is a research about the gender male and female, the age, occupation and also the race. The suitable thing for a different type of age like a design of pad.

And my research is about visual anthropology and primary & secondary research.

  • Primary research like  a personal work or personal research by using a manual method like interview or answering the question. We do the research by experiment a thing and explore the thing individually
  • Secondary research is a research that we can do by reference other person research. The research may be not accurate with what we want to know.
  • Visual anthropology is a research about taking photograph without and arrangement of like a candid. we can  take as many picture as we can and we can see the beautiful of the nature.

This is my slide about visual anthropology and the primary & secondary research.

Subj : 20th Century Designer
Lect : Andrew Stiff

We do some discussion about the making of the short film about instagram because we still confuse about what and how to make it. Therefore we make another brainstorm about instagram and now  I understand what should I do for the film.

From the instagram we can connect to other person and to the global by sharing the picture.
We can make a film about food, sport, illness, entertainment, news, and travel. We can take picture or record the video about this all thing and mix it up together to build a film. We can take as many as we can. The picture or movie that we take must be instant.

But I think I have a problem because I don't have any instagram account. So I decided to make account from my laptop and take picture from my hand phone then transfer to the laptop or I just use my friend account to take the picture. I get the topic about food so I must take a picture about any kind of food and it must be instantly. From the food we can describe about the culture in Malaysia. Like in my class there are student from Ghana, Sarawak, Malay, Christian, and Indian. So from the film it also can related to our class different people have their own culture and their own style.

Subj : 20th Design Century
Lect : Andrew Stiff
Task 1

We are ask to do a simple short video in a group
At first I really don't understand what to do and there is so many question playing in my mind such as
  • What we want to film it ?
  • How to film it ?
  • Why we want to film it ?

and many more
We make a short discussion and we decided to make the laptop as a thing that we want to film it but what kind of film is it ? so we make a brain storm to get more idea about the film.

This is our progress on the brain storm

From here I know that is a different in a laptop we can do a privacy work and also a public work.
The privacy work like our design, email and games but for the public work like Facebook, tweeter, instagram and many more. This is one of the way that we can connect to the public and to the other.
From here I interested in making a short film about an instagram and I need to search more about what I can do from the instagram.

Critical Thinking

Subj : Critical Thinking

Task 1

ANATOMY OF TYPOGRAPHY

We do some research about this topic and we also do a brainstorm in the class.

Anatomy is a body structure like arm, ear, leg, and etc. the typography has their own element we call it character that include individual letter, numeral, or punctuation mark. Therefor the anatomies of typography are the structure of the letter. The characteristic of the anatomy typography like aperture, arm, ascender, base line, bowl, counter, cross bar, descender, diagonal stroke, ear, finial, hairline, ligature, link, loop, lowercase, serif, shoulder, small caps, spine, spur, stem, tail, terminal, uppercase, x-height and many more.

  • Aperture

Is the opening at the end of an open counter example:

  • Arm.

Is a horizontal stroke that not connected on the one or both end.

  • Baseline

Is the invisible line that the latter sit

  • Bowl

A curve stroke that enclose a letter’s counter

  • Counter

Fully or partially enclose space within a letter

  • Ear

A small stroke projecting from the upper right bowl of some lowercase g’s

  • Hairline

The thin stroke of a serif typeface

  • Serif

‘Feet’ or non-structural details at the end of some stroke.

  • Shoulder

A curve stroke originating from the stem like the letter ‘m’ ‘n’ ‘h’

  • Stem

Is a primary vertical stroke

All this characteristic are part of the typography and it all important to build a letter. The characteristic of the typography is important like how important the part of our body to complete the whole human body.

This is a picture that we snap when doing the presentation about brainstorm on anatomy of typography

Subj : Methods Of Investigation
Lect : Miss Nadyra Bashir
Task 1 : Research Terminologies

Describe what you understand about this two word:
1. Primary & secondary research
2. Visual anthropology

1. Primary & secondary research.

PRIMARY RESEARCH
=Primary research is the research that you can get by asking question, conducting trial and collating result. This research can take form of quantitative or qualitative research.

·         * Quantitative research
Is a research that use scientific approach and make the hypothesis. From the hypothesis there are researchers will figure out whether to approve it or disapprove it. The technique use are usually easy to measure and the data generate can be analyses mathematically.

·         * Qualitative research
This research is more concern about opinion and feeling. The data not necessary end up with the group of number that can be analyses it can be look at the total picture rather than the separate component.
=The primary research is more complex and need the in depth exploration
=One to one talks with activities industry players & observation
=Only focus to the prospect companies

SECONDARY RESEARCH
=Secondary research is a research that base on the finding from other people research. It is include the research that we can get from the books, reports, or internet. All the information that we get must be gathered to support your conclusion.

Secondary research may also include:
·         *Statistical analysis
·        * Information analysis
=Secondary research can save time and you can easily incorporate your sources from Internet searches into your folio.
=Obtain from public source and focus on market.
=Easier to conduct and need broad understanding.

2. Visual anthropology

I’m tried to search about this word and I don’t really understand what the meaning and what is actually visual anthropology is. This is what I get,

=Visual anthropology is about human, the study of visual aspects of human behavior and the use of visual media in anthropology research, representation and teaching

=Research topics include sand paintings, tattoos, sculptures and reliefs, cave paintings, scrimshaw, jewelry, hieroglyphics, paintings and photographs.

And this is a video that I get from you tube about visual anthropology:

Subj : Critical Thinking
Lect : Mr. Kamarul

We are ask to pick 2 thing and draw 10 picture from the thing that we have pick.
So this is my drawing may be not nice but I try my best to draw it.

This is the 2 thing that I have picked:

1. Feather
2. Sugar case

1. The sun and the flower.

From here I understand that the flower need the sun to grow and to get energy same goes to human, human need sugar to get the energy to do a lot of work in a day.

2. The eye.

Every human being use eye to see and record what happen in their daily life and the eye are very important part of the body. Without eye human being will feel very difficult to move and do a job. It same goes to the function of the sugar, our body needs sugar to gain the energy. If our body do not have sugar we will feel weak.

3. The snail.

The shape of the sugar case are round so I think it is similar with the shell of the snail.

4. The tortoise.

The shell of the tortoise is round so I put the sugar case at the back of the tortoise and it look like the shell of the tortoise. We as a human need sugar if our body contains less sugar we will feel weak and do not have energy. When we not have energy the work that we want to do will be slow like a tortoise.

5. An orange

The shape of orange are circle same shape with the sugar case. Orange have a lot of vitamin and inside the orange also contain sugar that need in our body.

6. The lizard.

The pattern of the feather like a tiger fur so I imagine that the pattern on the lizard body.

  7. The pen.

The ends of the feather are sharp and also look like a pen. It has been use long time ago.

8. Cover of the Keris

The pattern of the feather very nice and it will be nice if we use it as a cover of the Keris.

9. Perfume bottle.

The pattern of the feather can be the cover of the perfume bottle and the end of the feather look like the tube in the perfume bottle.

10. Dress.

The feather pattern can be the new design for the dress and it looks nice.

WHAT I GET FROM THIS ACTIVITIES

* Try to think faster and always think creative.
* Don't scare to make a mistake
* Try to think something that outside of the box about the thing.

THE LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this module, student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate basic awareness of the leading practitioners within their field of study.
= look at the all the practitioners either international or local that relate to our study and use the material as a reference or guide line.

2. Evidence an understanding of the historical context for the discipline.
= Try to collect as many as you can the evidence that show you understand about the historical context from many resources.

3. Discuss and evaluate their own work in a group situation (self-analysis)
= Can identify the lack of our work and manage to improve it although we do in a group work.

4. Present cogent arguments verbally.
= Do a lot of research so we can feel confident to talk or do an argument and can elaborate the point with the fact.

5. Have a broad understanding of the wider applications, creative and         commercial of their chosen field.
= Try to do a lot of experiment and do a lot of reading from many resources. It helps us to understand more about what we want to know.
