3D CHARACTER AND ENVIRONMENT DESIGN FOR ANIMATION

ENVIRONMENT ( PROCESS )

I need to do the environment for this module, this is the sketches for my environment in game module therefor I can use the same environment in this module to. The environment look like the Mario game but I change the building in the game. I use the building design in Mantin, because my topic was about the food so I only pick the restaurant building in Mantin as the environment in this module.

picture 1 : sketches of the environment
I already have the sketches how my environment will look like therefor I need to make it in 3D. In 3D the I need to create the building according to the structure of the real building. First I need to create the building and follow by the road and the other thing.

picture 2 : the building
after that I need to make the detail of the building like the window and the door for the building.

picture 3 : the building with detail
Next I need to duplicate the building and make the road for my environment.

picture 4 : duplicate the building
For now I just finish at this stage and I need to do the color and also the texturing my environment and also make other detail for my environment.

PRINTING

After I finish developing my character now I need to print it into 3D so I need help from the lecture that can print my character into 3D but after finish printing my character got a little bit problem therefor I need to fix a little on my character and print it again. The problem for my character was I'm not joining the vertex and the polygon for my character. Therefor I need to join them all and print it again. This is the character that is not working and I need to do it again.

LIGHTING THE CHARACTER

Before  I do the environment I need to play with the lighting. I need to put the lighting on my character so if I render it the character will appear and I also need to know where to put the light as a sun to make it look more real.

picture 1 : lighting experiment 1
For the lighting experiment 1 I notice that the light is not enough there is some part that look dark and I need to put more light from side of the character and also at the bottom of the character and this is the front view for the first lighting experiment.

picture 2  : lighting experiment 1 front view
Picture 3 was the final lighting that I put to my character and I think I need to play and experiment more on the lighting to make it look real. I need to study more on lighting.

picture 3 : final lighting
After all are finish now I need to print my character in 3D and I need to color it, cannot wait to see my character after print it.

TEXTURING THE CHARACTER

After finish developing the character now I need to put the color and also the texture on my character. The texture and also the color must relate to Mantin because my project is about the Mantin therefor I need to choose the suitable color for my character to represent the Mantin. This is my character look like after I put the texture and also the color.

picture 1 : foodie with color and texture
FOODIE HEAD
picture 2 : foodie head texture
For the head of my character I put the texture of leather. I choose leather because to make it look valuable because Mantin looks old but it have many thing and history that we cannot replace it by other thing. Although it old but it still have a value same goes to leather even it look old but still have the value. For the color I choose the blue color because it symbolic to unity. Mantin has the good unity as we can see in Mantin there is three different race such as Malay, Chines, and also India.

FOODIE SCARF

picture 3 : foodie scarf texture
For the  scarf I use the the texture of wool and the color of green. I put the green color because as I can see Mantin is a small town with a lot of tree. I can see the small green town, it is very peace. Green is the color of nature that why I choose the green color.

BODY AND SHOES

picture 4 : shoes and body of foodie
For the body and the shoes I use the texture that I get from Mantin. It's the texture of the tree. Because Mantin has many tree therefor I use the tree texture that I get from Mantin and make it as the texture of body and shoes for my character.

Next I need to create the environment for this module so I need to work faster.

CHARACTER FOODIE ( PROCESS )

Now I need to continue my character by create the body and also the hand for my character. I use the cylinder polygon for the body of my character.

picture 1 : create the foodie body
Now I need to make the scarf for my character. The reason I put the scarf on my character because it will look more professional in searching the food in Mantin. I use the pipe polygon and I extrude a little bit to make it look like the scarf.

picture 2 : create the scarf
picture 3 : extrude the polygon to get the scarf detail

After that I made the hand for my character. In the process making the hand for the character I got the problem in moving the vertex because when I click at one vertex the other vertex that is opposite it will follow therefor I ask help from the lecture to solve my problem and I can continue develop my character.

picture 4 : create the foodie hand
Lastly I need to make the leg and also the shoes for my character if not how my character want to stand. Therefor I made the leg using the two cylinder polygon that I combine it by using the append to polygon tool and it will look bend.

picture 5 : develop the foodie leg
Now I need to make the shoes for my character, I just use the cube polygon to make the shoes and extrude it to make it look like a shoes.

picture 6 : the shoes for foodie
Last I need to mirror the leg and also the shoes to make it both side left and also the right side and finish.

picture 7 : my foodie
Next I need to make the texture and also the color for my character.

3D CHARACTER AND ENVIRONMENT FOR ANIMATION

CHARACTER FOODIE ( PROCESS )

After finish with 2D now I need to do my character in a 3D therefore I use the Auto desk Maya to create my character in 3D. I need to export the image that I made in illustrator the front view and also the side view as a reference to make my work easy in maya. First I need to start with the head of my character. I use the polygon pipe to make the face shape of my character.

picture 1 : create the foodie head

Because my character was a magnify glasses so I make the face of my character look like the mirror I just need to adjust the transparency and also choose the color blue to make it look like the glass. To make the mouth for my character for my it a little bit difficult because I don't know what polygon should I use, therefor I use the polygon cylinder and cut it into half and make the hole for the mouth.

picture 2 : create the foodie mouth

I add the teeth for my character to make  it look cute and also cheerful. I need to finish it fast because according to my gantt chart it already late and I need to work faster.

CLASS ACTIVITIES

In the class activities we must choose the partner to make the experiment on the camera angle. I need to understand how the camera angle function and also the position of the camera for each of camera angle. Each of us must choose 5 type of camera angle that we want to take and I choose low angle, close angle, high shot, freeze frame, and extreme long shot.

LOW ANGLE
A shot filmed down low, often looking up at the subject.

picture 1 : low angle
CLOSE ANGLE
A shot in which the subject is shown from the top of the head to mid-waist.

picture 2 : close angle

   HIGH ANGLE SHOT
A shot filmed from high above the subject

picture 3 : high angle shot

EXTREME LONG SHOT
A wide angle shot from a great distance such as an aerial or high angle shot of a location.
