TITLE: INSTALLATION ART OF DEFORESTATION PROPOSAL

OBJECTIVE:

      i.        We show the texture of the infertility soil after the deforestation on projector.

    ii.        We will use papers, newspaper or material that be made using tree to show the wastage of paper that human use and this lead to the active deforestation.

   iii.        Using made tree bark to show the deforestation that still happen nowadays and still happen in future if there no prevention and the imbalance of the world.

AIM: This project is to create awareness and let people think about the impact of deforestation    toward the world and preserving it for the next generation.

CONCEPT: Our concept is to show the impact/effect of the deforestation that happen now and toward the future and also happen if this kind of thing cannot be stopped. Our concept also is to let think or reflect about they done for the skyscraper building and ignoring the land they stand now.

MATERIALS: Newspapers, 2 rolls of fishing rope, recycle/unused papers, a bunch of chopsticks, a bunch of toothpicks, 1 bottle of white paint, 2 bottles of glue and wood filler, tree branch, tree age ring texture and tree bark texture.

THE DISADVANTAGES OF DEFORESTATION:

      i.        One of the disadvantages of the deforestation is global warming phenomena that lead towards of the increase in sea level and climate change this is because of the increasing temperature from the co2 emission.

    ii.        Deforestation also lead to the decrease of oxygen level and the increasing of carbon dioxide because the there are no tree to filter the carbon dioxide and changing it into oxygen.

   iii.        Deforestation also lead to the destruction of the wildlife habitat and this will lead to the extinctions, this will causing havoc in the biological food chain and the imbalance of the ecosystem.

   iv.        Deforestation also the cause of the soil erosion, without the tree, the soil will lose the fertility because the lack of nutrient and this cause of the desertification.

    v.        Deforestation also causing the flood or landslides, because on the heavy rain there no barrier between the rain and the soil because tree is the barrier between rain and land and slowing the rain flow.

   vi.        Deforestation also the major cause of the greenhouse effect. It’s happen because of the emission of the co2 and it trapped the radiation from the sun and increasing the temperature and depletion of the ozone layer.

RATIONAL: We use the white paint for the tree bark because it is the base paint for the concrete building and this show that the modern things nowadays come from a single tree. We also put the tree stump on the wall to show the people now look up for the modernist for example skyscrapers and forgetting the land they stand on and everything that come from the land.

Task 4 : batik proposal

SUMMARY

            Batik is a fabric that we use a wax to make a pattern on it. Batik was famous in Kelantan and Terengganu. The history of batik was from Indonesia it is one of the art work that very famous in Indonesia. In Indonesia batik was use in every formal festival or feast in their country even the prime minister also love to wear batik. Batik also well known in other country such as Africa, India, Sri Lanka, and China. Batik comes from Jawa word it is ‘tik’ means dripping or writes the dots. Other than that batik also comes from words ‘ambatik’ mean drawing, writing, coloring, or dripping. Every country has a different type and pattern of batik such as in Malaysia the pattern of batik is based on natural like the flower and the leaf. In Malaysia batik was made using color and the wax but in Africa they made batik using the mud. Usually we see batik only in the fabric but this time I want to make batik using the paper and I also want to replace the using of wax by using the liquid paper. Other than that I see there is so many batik that using the motif of flora and have many color on it. Therefore I want to design other pattern it is a death tree pattern and I also want to make the batik using only one color.

            According what I have research there is one person do batik only using 1 color it is KELLI MURRAY. She using only one color to make batik and hanging it on the wall it looks very interesting. She using black color and the wax to make the pattern on batik and make the pattern of flora and arrange it on the circle shape. There is also one person name Wai Lin Foong, she do an experiment using the liquid paper and water color. One of the arts is, she drawing a butterfly and some pattern of shape using more than one color. 

AIMS

Use paper as the place to make batik

My aim for this proposal is to experiment on make a batik using other method and using a difference thing. As we know batik in Malaysia use a fabric, wax and dye color therefore I want to make some change and make a little difference. I want to change the using of the fabric to using of paper. I did it because I want it look difference and make the cost to make it cheap. Other than that when we use paper it easy to us to recycle it back because as we know paper is the one of recycle thing that is very useful and it is also very ecofriendly.

Make the batik using paper and liquid paper.

Batik is one of the traditional things that have a specific value and contain a lot of pattern and color to make it look nice and beautiful. By using paper and liquid paper will make it easy to produce and everyone can make their own batik without need so much cost and it is safer than using the wax. By using the liquid paper children also can play and make their own pattern of batik. Other than that we are not feel scare to make what we want because it can be erase if there is some mistake. Other that as we know that batik has more than one color to make it looks attractive therefore I want to make it only using one color that is not a bright color such as black or something like dark purple. The purpose I choose the dark color is to make the pattern to look clear and want to focus on the pattern.

The dead tree as the pattern

We always see batik in Malaysia use the motif of flora that is beautiful and have many colors. Therefore I want make a little difference by use the dead tree as my pattern because the shape of the dead tree was nice and I think why not it be my pattern on the batik. It will give some effect that we not predict it.

PRELIMINARY DATA

 Base on my investigation, firstly I try to make batik by using the wax and I drop randomly to the paper and then I draw a line and some heart shape using the liquid. After that, I paint the paper using the water color. It look very interesting the place that I put the wax is not mix with the color same goes to the line and the shape that I make using liquid paper. But I notice that the pattern that I make using the liquid paper will be affected when I paint using the water color.

            After that I do another experiment by using the wax and the water color. First I paint the paper and then I drop the wax randomly at the paper. After the paper and the wax dried I paint the second layer with another color and wait until it dried and then I take of the wax that I make on the paper. It look good but I have the problem when I want to takeoff the wax maybe because I put the wax when the paper still wet therefor when I want to take it off it become difficult and stick to the paper.

            Next I make batik using the same material but this time I not use the hot wax. I make the words using the candle by scratch it on the paper and using the liquid paper to make another words. After all finish lastly I paint water color on it and all the words come out but for the liquid paper some part of the word cannot see clearly because it affected by water color. For this experiment I use the yellow and red color it look more attractive because I use the warm color.

            When I do some research about batik I see there is someone makes batik using water color and marker pen so decide to try making batik using that method. Because batik usually has many color so I put 3 colors on the paper and then I mix it using the water. After the paper are dried I start draw a pattern on the paper using the marker pen. It look too simple but I love the result of the mix color it look nice.

            After that I think I want to try making batik using the tissue paper. I try using the same material it is the wax and the liquid paper. I feel that it is difficult to make batik on the tissue paper by using the liquid paper because the liquid paper is sharp. I make the pattern of the butterfly and something like a plant on the tissue paper after that I color it using the water color. The feel when I make this experiment is the same feel when you make the real batik on the fabric. After that I make the latter A on the tissue paper but this time I using the wax to make it. It look nice and the best part is the wax are not seen compare to the liquid paper, we can see the mark left by liquid paper and it also not smooth on the tissue paper.

            Lastly I do the experiment using the paper but this time I use only one color on the batik and using the wax to make the pattern. The experiment looks nice so I decided to use only one color for my batik.

EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN AND METHODS

            Experiment was the important part of the design, from the experiment we know the problem and the reason of something that we did. Experiment also the concrete evident that we should have when we want to design something. For my project work I want to make batik using the paper, liquid paper and water color.

            As we know that batik usually contain many color and it look very nice with the organic and geometrical motif. But for my batik I want to make some change, I want to make batik using one color and using paper. I also want to make the pattern of my batik by using the motif of the dead tree. First I need to experiment on the how to use the liquid paper to make the thick and thin line? And also I need to know how to hold the liquid paper to make the pattern easy to draw? From this experiment I know when we want to make a thick line we must hold the liquid paper and press it after that we need to move it slower the slower you move the thicker line you will get. But when you want to make the thin line you must press the liquid paper slowly and move it faster it will give you a thin and smooth line. I also learn on how to hold the liquid paper to get the line and shape that we want, for example if you want to make the bold line you must hold the liquid paper on 90 degree it will give you a nice bold line. But if you want to make the sharp line you must hold the liquid paper on 45 degree.

            I also want to know which is better either to use the liquid paper or the correction tape therefore I make the experiment using this two thing. From the experiment I decide to use the liquid paper. Why I choose the liquid paper not the correction tape? First, when you using the liquid paper it will become easier to make or to draw a pattern on the paper because it is a liquid we can control it and will give a nice line that you want. But if you use the correction tape it will be difficult to control it. The liquid paper is suitable to make the pattern of the organic motif but if you want to make the geometrical motif is better to use the correction tape.

            I also experiment on the color. I want to make my batik using only one color and the color should not a bright color. Therefore I use the dark color such as black, dark blue, dark brown and more. After I do the experiment I like my batik in green color it look natural and suitable with the pattern that I make. I make the tone color at the bottom and the top are dark and the middle of the batik I make it look lighter. It looks more interesting.

            For the pattern of my batik I choose to make the pattern of the dead tree. Why I choose this pattern? The reason I choose this pattern because we only see the pattern of the beautiful of the flower so I want to make some different by using the dead tree pattern.

Task : Packaging

From the last task we need to find 3 packaging that we think there is something that is not right at the packaging and do a proposal that show what is wrong with the packaging that we have choose. After that we need to choose 1 packaging that we want to redesign it to look more better.

TITTLE : PACKAGING DESIGN PROPOSAL

OBJECTIVE: 
1.Change the shape of the bottle from circle to triangle. The reason to do this transform because it will look nice on the display.
2.Use other material to replace the glass such as the plastic bottle that can be recycle.
3.

AIM : Make the bottle can be reuse and improve the design that make it look suitable for the  product.

PROBLEM STATEMENT : 

•  The label are too small and not aligned. Other than that the information on the label are not enough and the color of the label and the bottle are same color it look not interesting. If the label are move we do not know what bottle it is. The latter are too small and difficult to read. The logo are small and cannot be see from far. This packaging also does not have a price tag.
• This bottle was a glass bottle as we know the glass bottle are easy to break. When the glass bottle are break it is very dangerous compare to the plastic bottle. It is because when the glass break the fragment are very sharp and can hurt anyone who stepped on it.
• Other than that the cap of the bottle it use the cans cap. It will make the bottle can not be reuse because it cannot  be save if we not finis drink the water. 
• The use of the bottle glass is more heavy compare to when we use the plastic or event use the aluminium can. 

PROBLEM SOLUTION

• Use the difference color of the bottle so that we can see the difference between the label and the bottle such as replace the green color to the white color. Make the label a little bit bigger so that we can put all the important information at the bottle such as the nutrition information, the caution and the ingredient. Other than that we also can replace the label of the logo with make a cop at the bottle. It can reduce the wastage of the sticker use. 
• Replace the glass to the plastic bottle. It will reduce the danger of the bottle.
• Use the plastic cap like a screw cap it will make the bottle can be reuse and when the water are not finis we still can save it in refrigerator.
• Make the shape of the bottle triangle and make a grip at the middle of the bottle. It help in holding the bottle.
• triangle shape can save more space in display.
• Make a hole at the bottom of the bottle it will help when want to put the bottle in a large container or box.
• Other than to tag the bottle the hole also can use to keep the cap of the bottle.

RATIONAL

• First is to make the bottle easy to carry anywhere because it is not heavy
• It will not be too dangerous if the bottle fall down because it is plastic.
• When we hold the bottle there are grip on the bottle so we not scare that the bottle fall down.
• The hole at the  bottom of the bottle are use to tag another bottle. It will protect the bottle if we put the bottle in the container and also will save the space use to organize the bottle. 

CONCEPTUALISM REPORT

Subj : 20th Century Design
Task : Conceptualism Report

 INTRODUCTION

20^th century design was an art movement that is gets the influent from politic. In this subject there are five themes that we need to understand and learnt about it. The first one is cubism, cubism is the art that we need to look from difference view about one object. Although it is only one object but it will give a difference meaning in a difference situation. Secondly is Dadaism or dada, dada is an art that we can express about our feeling in politic into art. Dada has no rule to make it. The third themes is surrealism, surrealism is an art that we make something real but using other material for example there is one person who want to exploring about the ‘Soundscapes’ it is Zai Tang. He uses the tape to produce a sound of jungle. Surrealism is more to make a dream to be a reality it is also a movement in the sound. Forth theme are conceptualism, it is about how we see the idea on the object. And the lastly is about postmodernism, it is an only focus to the object not the idea. In this report I only focus on conceptualism art.

For this report I choose my art work that I have done in subject Digital Design. I make a movie sequence about Snow White and the Seven Dwarf on the plate. The reason why I use plate as a place to make this work because as we know in the story Snow White and the Seven Dwarf the main thing that is play an important impact is an apple. Apple is a food that why I choose plate as a place I make my art work. The idea of this task is the poisoners apple that it uses in the story. I put the apple at the center of the plate and I put all the sequence of the story around the apple.

  The reason why I choose the round plate compare to square plate because for me a sequence is like the whole story that we have simplify it into a short story. We only take the importance part in the story. As we know to watch whole movie take a long time but when there is a movie sequence we not need a long time to understand the story. For the sequence I just pick a picture and painting some image at the plate. I also make the character of the snow white and the prince from the dough.

            There is one person who makes their art using the plate she is RED HONG YI. She uses the plate as a canvas that she will make the art only using the plate and the food. She said that “the city’s contradicting charms and chaos inspired her to start creating art using local everyday materials as her medium”. She has made many art using plate and food. Other than that she also make the art using basketball, chopstick, mark making of the coffee, candle and also the flower. She also known as the artist “who love to paint, but not with a paintbrush”. There is one of his arts show one part of the story THE THREE LITTLE PIGS, she use the spaghetti, bread sticks and soy sauce to make this art work. Here is some of the example of his work:

 For my improvement I want to make the movie sequence using only an apple. I want to make a movie sequence only using the skin of an apple and put it on the plate because the idea was the food and the object was the plate. I will peal the skin of an apple without break it and continues after that I want to draw the sequence on that skin. 



CONCLUSION

In conclusion, I understand that the conceptualism art was about what we think about the idea of something and try to think the solving problem by using the object. For conceptualism art we only need to focus on the idea but not the object. For example the idea of my task was an apple and an apple was a food as we know we need the container to put the food that why people build a plate that can put food on it. When there is a plate so the food will be more safe to eat and will be more clean. Other than that the plate also makes the food become more organizers and will not look mess on the table.

            Beside that I also learnt that all the thing happen around us such as the design of something happen because of the concept. For example if we want to drink the water we need a cup and if we want to eat we need the plate. That why the idea or the concept was very important in designing something.
